This is the first time in the country to find lithium mining! Jammu and Kashmir under GSI’s umbrella

Geological Survey of India discovered this first lithium mine in the country. Demand for basic minerals was increasing to increase the number of electric vehicles in the country. Naya is looking for experts who can meet many of those needs. On Thursday, the Geological Survey reported that this is the first lithium mine found in Jammu and Kashmir. The mine was discovered in the Reasi district in the north of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir. The Geological Survey of India statement said that the mine is the source of a total of 5.9 million tons of lithium.

Lithium is very important in the construction of electric batteries. Special help to scrap old cars in India was announced in Budget 2023. At the same time, the finance minister requested to increase the use of electric batteries to reduce pollution. The discovery of massive lithium deposits will speed up that process.

In the meeting of the 62nd Central Geological Programming Board on Thursday, Union Coal and Mines Secretary Vivek Bharadwaj said that 5.9 million tonnes of lithium has been found in Jammu and Kashmir for the first time. The mine is located in Salal-Haymana area of Reasi district. Since 2015, the Center has issued a total of 287 geological memoranda and 195 G2 and G3 reports to the state government. A total of 500 blocks have been auctioned through this. Vivek congratulated the Geological Survey of India for this achievement. After that, Vivek said, like this, the Geological Survey of India should continue to work at the same speed.

Although mainly lithium is used in the battery industry, the Center encourages the development of electric vehicles. Lithium is also used for energy storage in large power generation plants. On May 12, 2021, the Center introduced the Production Linked Incentive. Investments are also made in this regard for the production of state-of-the-art electronic batteries. The central government has announced a total subsidy of Rs 18,100 crore for a period of five years.

In his statement, Vivek said that the Center has a target to find several more important and useful minerals in the next financial year 2023-24. In this, the search for minerals for making chemical fertilizers will continue. GSI is going to start 966 projects in coming days. Out of which 318 are minerals. Among them, there are 12 marine mineral exploration projects.
