News Of Vijay Mallya: Fugitive businessman Vijay Mallya played a big role in the Supreme Court. He was convicted in a 2017 contempt of court case. The Supreme Court has sentenced Vijay Mallya to four months imprisonment and fined him Rs 2,000.

The Supreme Court Sentenced Vijay Mallya To Four Months In Jail

The Supreme Court has asked Vijay Mallya to deposit the money along with the lone within four weeks. Otherwise, his property will be attached. Vijay Mallya has been accused of embezzling Rs 9,000 crore from Kingfisher Airlines. A bench headed by Justice U U Lalit pronounced the verdict.

Justice Lalit, Justice S Rabindra Bhat, and Justice P.S. Narasimha reserved their order on March 10 to determine the amount of punishment in the case. They said no progress was possible in the trial against Mallya.

Mallya was convicted of contempt in 2017 and the matter was listed for determination of his proposed sentence. The apex court had rejected the appeal filed by Mallya in 2020 for reconsideration of the 2017 verdict. The court found him guilty of contempt for disobeying a court order and sending  40 million to his children’s accounts.
