Images of the Turkish earthquake so far –
> Turkey was first shaken by a devastating earthquake on Monday, February 6. It is known that the magnitude of this earthquake in Gaziantep area was 7.8. Then exactly 15 minutes later the country shook again. The magnitude was 7.6 on the Richter scale. The Turks did not blink after that. One vibration after another. Repeated aftershocks. A total of 109 times the border of Turkey and Syria shook in a span of 36 hours. Many refugees fleeing the Syrian civil war are busses in the Gaziantep area of Turkey. Basically, the area was moved by the earthquake.
> According to the news so far, 15 thousand 338 people have died in this destruction of nature. Among them, 12 thousand 391 people died in Turkey. Syria’s death toll is 2,992.
> Temperatures in Turkey have dropped below freezing. Miles and miles of roads collapsed in the earthquake. As a result, the rescue work has to be accelerated.
> Kahramanmaras and Gaziantep areas were most affected by the earthquake. Many people are still buried under the rubble in these two areas.
> The administration says that about 6 thousand multi-storey buildings have collapsed. A famous 13th century mosque has been completely destroyed. A 14-storey building with 28 apartments in the city of Malta collapsed like a house of cards on top of the mosque. 92 residents of that apartment died in the blink of an eye. The hilltop castle in the Gaziantep area built by the Roman army was destroyed.
> Syria’s old city of Aleppo is on the UNESCO heritage list. Diyarbakır in southeastern Turkey was also affected.
> India sent sixth ‘Operation Dost’ aircraft on Thursday. Relief materials, more disaster response team members have been sent.
> So far 10 Indians have been reported stranded in various cities of Turkey. A youth from Bangalore is missing.
