New Omicron Sub-Variant BA.2.75: The rampage of Corona is not stopping. Coronavirus has changed many times in the last two and a half years. Infections have decreased slightly in the past, but infections are increasing again in different parts of the world. The main cause for concern at the moment is a new sub-variant of Omicron.
New Omicron Sub-Variant BA.2.75
Sub-variant ‘BA.2.75’ of Omicron. It is nicknamed ‘Centrus’. In May, the first Centrus was spotted in India. Now it is known for its presence in about 10 countries including Britain, Australia, America, Japan, Germany, and Canada. ‘Centrus’ is spreading rapidly all over the world.
Very little is known about Centers so far. The European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) on July 7 termed the variant as a ‘variant under monitoring’, indicating that it may be more infectious or serious. However, there is still no evidence in this regard. Scientists believe that the BA.2.75 sub-variant will spread faster than Omicron’s BA.5 and BA.2 variants.
World Health Organization’s Advice
The World Health Organization (WHO) is testing this new form of Omicron. Dr. Soumya Swaminathan, Chief Scientist of WHO, said that the new variant is being observed to know better. So far very little sequencing has been possible. There are not enough samples yet to determine its severity.
He also said, looking at this sub-variant, it is understood that some mutations or changes have occurred in the receptor binding domain of the spike protein. This is the core of the virus, which attaches itself to human receptors.
