G 24 Hours Digital Bureau: Nine people have been killed and 11 sickened in a gas leak at a factory in Giyaspura area of Punjab’s Ludhiana. A rescue team has reached the spot, and a team of doctors, ambulance and fire brigade have also reportedly been dispatched to the spot. The affected area has been cordoned off.
Swati Tiwana, Sub Divisional Magistrate, Ludhiana said, ‘Definitely, this is a gas leak case. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams reached the spot to evacuate local people and started rescue operations. Nine people have died and 11 are sick in this incident’. The nature and source of the gas is yet to be known, and the NDRF team will investigate it, he said.
He also said the important thing is to evacuate this densely populated area.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that all possible help is being provided, and more information will be communicated soon.

He tweeted in Punjabi saying, ‘The incident of gas leak in a factory in Giaspura area of Ludhiana is very sad. Police, government and NDRF teams are present at the spot. All possible help is being given. The rest of the details will be announced soon’.
